Day of frustration + potterings - got bill for loan interest payment from Chemical New York + I sent it in plus $500 payment on the loan - still owe about $4,300 but it’s been ages since I sent anything. Bill from Lauria’s - paid that and paid April rent. Peter + I went to cleaners + Rick’s Dress Shop. Mother’s skirt ready and it looks lovely. Paid for it + they’ll mail it in time for her birthday. Dropped off some shoes at the Good Will Box and then went to the bank - too crowded it being noon so headed over to Cole + Wilcox to get a duplicate license. Because my own expired on May 23rd I had to reapply and go through the whole thing - tests + all. Totally unprepared. Peter stood near me for first 3 or 4 written questions making signs + was told to go away + leave me alone - Felt like child cheating in school (we both did). I got only one wrong however out of some 40 questions - not too bad! But then I was told I had to take the road test + I flipped - was in Peter’s car which I’m not used to. But they wouldn’t let me keep anything that would serve as identification if I didn’t so I had little choice. Got in car with Peter + couldn’t get it started - rolled back + bumped car behind me. Had fit - wouldn’t go on. Blah blah. Then car behind me pulled out (I was on a hill) + I tried again. Not used to gears. Tense as a tick. But finally took test + squeaked through with six points to spare. Nice inspector luckily. But by this time it was after 2 o’clock + I’d accomplished nothing else. Went to Bank + found to my great disappointment that my favorite teller Diane Mrozeck had moved out to the valley. I could have cried as I wanted to cash N.Y. check as well as deposit one + nobody else there knows me. Went back to house to get ready for appt. + decided I just couldn’t make it. I felt too tired + awful + fat to go to G. A. C. Called Bob Levine + told him I was frantic + would he forgive me etc. And he said to come in as soon as I get back. Sent him pictures + copy of my book + sent copy of my book to Arthur Kingsley. Went + lay down + read “You’re Stepping on My Cloak + Dagger” - funny + interesting but a bit smart alecky. Peter went to unemployment came back + napped. Then I wrote a letter to David Kallman retaining him as my corporation lawyer + asking that he do everything necessary to maintain the existence of Patch pockets - without it I’m sunk. Then wrote James Brown repeating what I’d told him over the phone + enclosed carbon of letter to David “James, James/ Oliver, Oliver/ Representative Brown/ Took good care of his clients….”. Peter fixed us a lovely dinner of all sorts of vegetables + kippers + we opened a bottle of sparkling rose. After dinner we called Richard who wasn’t home + then went to Wilcox to mail everything + thence to the backstage - I in my long dress. Jerry + Jo + Mike + Buddy + Bobby Fry + Bob Thornton + Bobby Lasky + Curt [Doe] + anyone of any import - we got really quite wildly drunk.
