Mary wrote Daddy the note while I was there + mentioned about the IBM-I was glad that I wouldn’t be their sole source of information on that. I mailed letter.

Up rather early-had planned to take Millie out this noon to see Mary but called and the children all had a half day of school so made date for tomorrow. Also explained to Millie about not coming out there the way I had before + that I thought everyone shouldn’t help this time. Called Louise Sullivan for Mary + said she was so sorry about the children this weekend + the bridge date on Monday. Called George Spicer + made date at 3:15 for haircut. Called Mother + Daddy. Mother asleep spoke with Daddy. Told him the situation + described Mary’s worry about finances-he said it was all covered by insurance (Allen had told him) I asked him to write her that + he said to tell her to write him a note asking him + he’d answer. Told him about the IBM stocks + he was very upset + said he didn’t think she ought to sign. I then told him I”d said the same thing + Mary told me they’d talked it over before + she wanted him to clear up the debts. Just thinks the timing is wrong tho. He asked me to call later + I said there wasn’t much point but I”d try to write. Peter drove me to Lapin Bros where George gave me a lovely haircut + then we went out to the hospital. Mary there lying on bed reading-said she felt “blue”-a patient had gotten violent the night before + god knows her roommate is a vision of depression. Mary said + I believe her that when you’re feeling well to be surrounded by so much sickness + violence is terribly depressing. Dr. Horenstein told her that she had to stay there five months-that was one of Allen’s conditions. And she talked very wistfully of everyone going home for weekends etc. I asked her if she thought Peter + I could take her out to dinner on the weekend + she said she’d ask. I told her I”d call Horenstein myself and did so from hospital. Didn’t get him first time but the 2nd time he said he didn’t think it was very important whether she went or not + I could have screamed at him but didn’t-just said I was going home soon + he said he’d talk it over with Mary tomorrow. Brought Peter in the backway-he wasn’t too happy about it but I thought it would be a good morale booster + it was. We left about 6:30. Came back via Sta Monica + ate dinner at the Formosa. Very very good. Then went to the Overtons + had lovely beer drinking evening like Phyllis. She knows both Parker + Ruth Green-Oh well. Frank on the wagon since Sunday. WE left + stopped off at the Backstage to say hi-made Scrabble date with Robt. E. Frye for Thursday. Gale told me Dick was all upset about play. Mike was in a drunk humor very touchy + morose.
