    No smoking.

Busy day-strangest reaction to non-smoking is inability to sit down at my desk + write letters. For some reason I can’t seem to stay put too long. Feel sure this will wear off. Feena mint worked. Thank goodness. We went up to Griffiths park and practiced on the back board-that was a great help. Nice lady there gave us a few pointers. Rallied after-played about a half an hour. No point in overdoing. Came back to the house-letter from Louis Auchenloss saying he’d spoken to Hans Rosenwald who “seemed very upset + couldn’t understand why I was dissatisfied with the book!” Lovely statement then from Louis-”I told him that there was no point in our going into that and that it seemed to me that enough correspondence had already been exchanged. I said that so far as I was concerned you were dissatisfied and that had to be that and what would he do about giving you back title to the book.” Well that’s telling him-Whee. Called Terry Vlist + got Don Broome’s number again-tried to call him but no answer. Terry said he’d call him about the book + me too. Louis’ letter was so quick + so prompt that I’m in a bit of a shock and have to find a publisher soon! We ate up all the vegetables in the ice box for lunch-a tasty repast. Called Jocelyn Brando wanted to pick up books-no answer at the bookstore or at the shop. Went then to Huntington Hartford to pick up Peter Pano’s paintings, loaded them on station wagon + then went by Timmy’s house to see if he’d drive in with us + take Panos home. But Timmy had a cold + looked so miserable we drove off. I got out at Westwood Village-went to see Aaron Soady at the very minute I got there Camille was there ordering another copy of my book for her boyfriend in Egypt. She hadn’t read it when we saw each other Sunday but she was all excited about it now. I gave Aaron Jo’s check for 3 copies and also picked up the copies of Human Survival after bodily death that I’d ordered. Went over to Campbells but Mrs. C. wasn’t there-saw Mrs. Stickney who told me the book hadn’t been selling-they had eight copies left oh dear. Peter came to pick me up + it turned out that Timmy had come in after all so we didn’t have to drive out there. Went to order Peter’s St. Christopher Medal + get both engraved. Home took nap. Drove both cars to Backstage-ate dinner-show Gale very wrong for part. Oh dear. Dick Kneeland very unhappy. Gave him car. Went to Backstage after. Peter had left a movie to meet me on time + I was late we had drinks with Dick and a hamburger Stayed late.
