Up about 9:30-Wrote Diary-Peter off to rehearse. I made another copy of the scene from Death of Bessie Smith-Sent in my 20th century checks + sent commission to Jack Donaldson-Then spent the rest of the day reading “Groucho + Me” by Groucho Marx and started and almost finished “Memoirs of a Mangy Lover.” Really enjoyed both-Peter stayed after rehearsal which I gather went well + helped Charlie + Bob Roberts with the studio. We called Jennie about five + picked her up at six. Drove out to Malibu-the sunset lovely but misted-the Sea Lion alas was closed + we ended up at “The Point” who once again didn’t have steamed clams-I could have wept from frustration!!! I’d been dreaming of them for 36 hours! Had a salad though-not bad. P.O.P. not open either-came back to town + went to a few bookstores downtown in search of Bessie Smith-unavailable. Came home + we watched the Rogues-enjoyed it-Gladys Cooper + Robert Cooke + Estelle looking lovely-At 11 Peter drove us home-meaning we both took Jenny to Ivy Terrace + then came back here where I read more of “Mangy Lover”-bed about one-
The march from Selma to Montgomery started today.
