Diet. First week.
Slept til almost eleven-coffee + metrecal. Have stayed on diet now for seven days-Another 2 or 3 weeks and I should be about right. I wrote a note to Carl + Sue + another to Ted Willis along with a copy of my book. Many calls back + forth to Timmy-then went to pick up Jenny about 2:30 or so. First stop Price St. where I got my sunglasses, back of the green sweater + a copy of my book for Jenny-we spent about 2 1/2 hours just driving around through the Hollywood Hills + along Mulholland Drive. Stopped for late lunch at the Hamburger Hamlet on the strip-Gee Jenny’s a nice girl and I think she’s having a good time here-likes the place she’s staying-likes her job-likes the people she’s meeting etc. etc. etc. I ate a hamburger with no bun + sauerkraut-listed on the menu at 120 calories. We went to Grauman’s Chinese + were given a picture of Elvis Presley as we gazed at the footsteps. Then up to the Japanese Place the Yamashiru Sky room where a very nice parking attendant is told us all about it-also learned the top price for dinner is about $4.85 which is not at all bad. The sun setting + lights winking on-went to Timmy’s early-got cheese + hardtack-I ate my metrecal while they ate some chile-Timmy gave Peter a “bowser bag” to take home-Nice pleasant evening-television-ice skating championship-”My Favorite Martian” (Oh dear!-such a good script) + then we all worked on the puzzle + completed it. Left about 11 o’clock-stopped to fix a flat just before [crossed out writing] hitting the freeway-Took Jenny home + came back + fed Jiggs-[crossed out writing] I had metrecal soup before going to bed. Timmy has hit or rather is still up against a snag in his book but I can’t think it’s as serious as he does at this moment-After a day of comparative peace in Selma Alabama 3 white ministers were attacked by 4 white men and one of them, James Reab [Reeb] from Boston is critically injured the other two were merely badly beaten.
