A not very good day really-up at 7:30-Peter off to “Mr. Ed”-wrote in diary-futzed about. Called Timmy to see if Jane could come too-yes. Called Betty Lamb to confirm time tomorrow. Called Pam Polifroni wasn’t there. Called Dr. Ware. Same. Called Elizabeth + began being depressed then. Seems Allen told Mary she ought to go to Alaria this summer + take the children. No thought of asking Mother or Daddy. No remembrance, no consideration. He kills me. Of course all this was confidential from Elizabeth including the fact that Mary was “getting fed up with Peter” because he wasn’t getting his divorce-as if it’s any of her goddamned business. If I’m not fed up-she has no right to be. Blah Blah. Will see Elizabeth soon. Called Mary + said I’d be out around two or three. She said that was too late to come earlier. Went to Price Street-dear letter from Newcomb forwarded from New London + saying how much they were looking forward to my visit. Oh dear. Newsletter from Jimmy + some odds + ends. I went through everything in the apartment + came up with some really impressive stamps for Colby. I think she’ll be impressed + pleased. Packed alot of papers in a suitcase to take to Burlington, picked out a great heap of mysteries for Mary. Went to bank-deposited $60.50 in change in the savings acct. with $8 interest it’s back over $800. I deposited residuals + mailed a commission check to Jack Donaldson. Bought stamps and went to Camera shop-left film + picked up prints from Mary’s party. Drove out Sunset. Got to Mandeville at 2-late-Mary teaching James bridge. Mary depressed-David played record for me. Rude to his Mother. Abby had music lesson. I left about 4 o’clock. Came back by way of Sta Monica F’way. Peter already home. Has another job on Profiles of Courage-next week-Whee! Also chance of 4 days on the Joey Bishop Show. Mary upset because Peter had gotten tickets for Hedda Gabler on Monday + I was supposed to lecture Susie’s Campfire girls. It was changed to Tuesday. Oh joy. Felt very trapped in old ruts. Took a nap after yelling at Peter that I hate California. Oh dear. Got to Timmy’s and there was a crisis [crossed out writing] Chris + Brady. Felt as if I’d never left, never been gone-letter from Camille that annoyed me thoroughly. Sort of a horrid evening although under it all I was glad to see Timmy-just hated the sameness of it all. We came back about midnight.
