Such a busy day. Made reservations-Northeast to Manchester on Sunday-TWA from Boston to L.A. on Thursday. The laundry came. I called Ev. Britz + may see them Sunday. Will call tomorrow. Called Mrs. Sullivan + spoke to Annie’s Aunt Jane-left message. Called Louis Auchenchloss-nice chat told him how much I loved the Rector of Justin. Called Jill Fox + had a good time-wished I’d seen her. Next time. Spoke with Mr. Montgomery. Same. Called David Kallman. Not there. Called Sleepy Hollow-no words from Atlantis Books. Called Lester-date tomorrow at Yale Club for brunch. He told me Jim Fleming had gotten a promotion to Trust Officer + Had his picture in the Times. Wrote note to Charles Wilson with $10. Went to P.O. + mailed pkge. Got $3.41 of different stamps to send Colby later-will do that with all pkges from now on. Went to Bank of N.Y. + casehd check. Farewell to Mr. Bretell + Mr. Wadsworth. Will write Jim Fleming-bought congratulations card. Bought two copies of N.Y. Times. He looks like Humphrey Bogart. Went to Airlines building + got my tickets. Went to Dentist. My new tooth is beautiful-worth the whole trip! Will miss the Dentist! Home at 6 o’clock. Had wanted to watch Laurie on TV-too late. Made steak dinner. Fell asleep after + slept til nearly 9-got cab down to Dunhall’s liquors. bought 2 bottles of Vat 69 + two of Early times-one of each for Scotty + Drue. Bottle of Port for Harriet-Farewell to Irving. Got to Harriets at 9:15-We had a bit of a visit but not much. Went down to Eva Jolies to watch Slattery’s people. Good who although they cut two of my three little scenes. Oh dear. Sad. Had a glass of port after. Very good. Got name of woman (Bluma Trell) to call. Harriet promised to let me know about the Peace Corps. Left at 11:45. Went to 18th St. Found stamps for Colby-mint Japanese (two packets left + 1 duplicate) + some old ones from letters although most were already torn off. Drue had note from Cynthia saying she was going to pick up her stuff-about time. Scotty + Jane called about 12:20 + we went downstairs. Scotty fixed punch. Big mistake. Learned later we drank between the five of us (Drue + dick, Jane, Scotty + I) 2 1/2 bottles of vodka, almost a fifth of scotch and a liberal sprinkling of rum-to say nothing of banana + orange juice, grapefruit + pineapple juice, hawaian [Hawaiian] punch, diet pepsi + milk. Which was all that really tasted. Funny evening-Drue gave Scotty a “Pin the Tail” + Dick took Polaroid pictures. Scotty tried to do tarot cards (but had mislaid the book) + wound up of course with his strip act-Party broke up about [crossed out writing] 6:30am + Janie + I decided to spend the night at Scotts.
