Up about 11 o’clock-did my exercises again. Packed up my makeup + things + ironed my dress as Janie came in late. However she’s ironed everything out with Mary. Mary apologized completely + totally which is a good think + both Peter + I were so pleased. We gave Mary a ticket. And I called George + Judy Spicer to give directions on how to get there. Mary E. called to wish me luck + I was very happy. Peter drove me to Bill’s + then Bill drove me out to Encino. The afternoon run thru went very smoothly. Two hours between shows but I decided not to eat. Had an ice cream cone + some metrecal + got all made up. Hope gave me some lovely earrings in exchange for the holly ones. And gave us all some jelly. I got a dozen long stemmed roses from Darling Peter. And a telegram from him and from Timmy. Was ready too soon and the wait became unendurable. Finally the show started. It was hard to tell what people were feeling. The disasters began in my First Act scene (the 2nd scene) with Edward. Just as things were going there was an awful crash + a table in back of the auditorium collapsed with 3 usherettes on it. That wasn’t enough-everyone had to turn + see + there was applause that started out enthusiastically + then trailed off as no one else joined in -the others were aware at least that the scene was not over. The next scene was enhanced by uncontrollable laughter from the same inspired source. The worst of it is that it was all the Pastor’s wife who was swacked out of her mind. Timmy later said he saw her tossing cups about in the lobby. Peter said she was kissing everyone very fervently. My 2nd scene was better. Saw Jack, George, Dick, Timmy, Jane, Pheemie + Stuart who had a nite off + Mary after-People seemed to have liked it. David’s house later. Dan Scott, Bill Mercer, Tom Sands (friend of Billy Matthews)-lots of nice people. Found out Bob Brubaker knew Ralph Brooke-Peter + I took Judy Bosgrove home-!!!-Came home to Burl about 4:30
