Up about 7:30-Pottered about-went over lines, exercises, coffee, diary etc. Made 2 loaves (prepared) of Garlic bread. Peter went to post office to get forms for Rita’s package. Came back + I filled them out + addressed it + he mailed it for me. Six dollars. I washed my hair + then got Peter to cue me. I knew my lines better than I’d thought and at last I’ve started thinking about Celia in more specific terms. WE stopped at Price St. and I had a note form the N.Y. Trust Co. saying the money was in the bank. Then out to Otsego. We hit an accident on the Freeway + were a few minutes late but so were alot of the others. Dear Peter-he’s had a rather nasty day or two thanks to my own blacks + difficulties with tackling Celia. The afternoon rehearsal to my surprise went alot better than I’d hoped-then we had dinner + went through it again. It didn’t go as well for me personally. And that’s one of the problems. Until I have the play based solidly it’s going to be very chancy. Peter came to get me at almost 1 am. He’d had dinner with Timmy + Joan Korda + a bit much to drink although I didn’t realize it until we’d had a couple of beers at home + he was suddenly quite drunk. Jane + Paul stopped by. But before they did we had a long discussion about the play + my part + my difficulties and although alot of it was a little pointless I think in talking it over + clarifying my ideas it was a great help to me. We went to bed about 3:30!
Clyde Houston called me about coming to the Coronet + meeting Ray Bradbury-replacement maybe-or understudy. Told him I was going home at Christmas but he said to call Monday.
