Kruschev no longer head of the U.S.S.R.-
A day that was lost until about 3:30-Got up + felt so sick I went back to bed. Truly fragile. No mail. I read a mystery. Slept again. Ate some sherbet. Peter went out to buy Bromo Seltzer + we learned about Khruschev- End of an era. The stock market shaky. Big political upset too with Walter Jenkins-a Johnson aide for 12 years arrested on a morals charge (the 2nd it developed) Oh lord + what a bad time for this to happen. At 8:00 tottered to my feet-Peter had been changing rugs all over the house-looks good. We went to Janie’s to watch Estelle on Kildare. She was fine + looked absolutely heavenly. Show a little slow especially at the end (tried to call her but she wasn’t home-Jane home about 10 + we went up to Price St. + then to Burl’s coffee shop for dinner. Peter called Andelson today + must call him again tomorrow at seven. He called Frank Overton-had long chat-they’re building a house somewhere. Frank told him to call John Conwell who casts his series but when Peter called Howard Rubin he said J.C. already knew him. Oh well-ho hum. Timmy called us to ask us to dinner tomorrow. Richard called person to person for Wallace Gunn + we talked with him a little over the operator-we decided he was just trying to tell us he’d gotten there-
