Up reasonably early-Did exercises. Peter went to Post Office to pick up copy of Fox. brought it back + we wrapped it-then he went + mailed it off. Saw Mary Parker and she’d gotten some needles + was all anxious to start a sweater but had no pattern. Told her I’d look for one-we called Abbey Rents + then made a list of what we needed. Went to A.R. at 600 S. Normandy + ordered it all-4 dozen glasses (assorted) 3 doz plates, 6 doz spoons, 3 doz knives + forks + linen napkins, 10 chairs, 36 plates, 2 silver platters-a huge coffee maker etc. etc. All very easy + comparatively reasonable at $48.00 there’s no professional discount as we’d thought for Doctors so we decided to pick up the tab ourselves (they’ll deliver) on Friday to Burlington. Very nice man there. Left feeling we’d accomplished something + went to Tiny Naylors to have some brunch. About 4 o’clock. Drove up to Hollywood + Peter parked in front of the B’way while I dashed in to look for a pattern for a shell sweater for Mary. Searched + searched + found nothing [crossed out writing] even remotely attractive. Finally the lady there took pity + dug up a standard kit pattern which she gave me for free. Price Street. Sad note from Bill saying he was lonely as hell-looked for another pattern none there. Back to Burlington. Mary Parker came down + we started working on her sweater. Tried to figure out how to adapt my pattern to hers-hope it will work. She’s surprisingly adept at knitting. Peter fixed us all a corn beef + vegetable dinner. Delicious. Bill Tregoe called + asked Peter + me to dinner. Weds. with Ruth Bunch + her sister. Accepted happily. Peter went on with “Hard Times” while we knitted. Jane called suddenly to ask if she could take the [crossed out writing] $37.50 apartment-Peter said yes she’s coming tomorrow. We knitted + read til about 1 o’clock-pleasant happy evening.
