Up about 8:30-faint aftertaste of last night’s beer. Peter off to rehearsal at 9:45-I washed my hair and got all dressed up (”pert”) with hat + sun-back dress. Drove off feeling a bit of a fool. Got to Columbia + found out it was a call from Maxine Anderson! Alot of girls there. I felt very silly + said to Maxine I”d been told to look pert. She said I looked so pert she might throw up. After that it was all fairly funny. A couple of very pertaining [?] girls there-one especially with a hangover. Strange interview-pantomime bit. Didn’t too [crossed out writing] well. Glad to get out. Drove up to Western Airlines + picked up our tickets-mine for Thursday + Peter’s for Saturday. We’re going to Denver + then into Montrose arriving at one/thirty there on our respective days. Am beginning to get excited. Came back to Price + called Geo. Spicer. He doesn’t work Wednesdays but said he could cut my hair this afternoon late at his house. Drove out to Mandeville-got there 2:30-Susan waiting for me-fixed me a peach milkshake. Allen + the boys up in the mountains + the house very quiet. The twins both out for the afternoon. Asked Susan what she’d gotten from Grandma for her birthday and she told me about the money and the necklace. I didn’t know how to ask her if she’d written so let it go but carried on a bit about the necklace. Mary came in-Blannie had just called her + they may all get together later this summer. We went out + lay by the pool. The sun so hot I could barely stay there. Elizabeth joined us. We chatted some + I learned at least that she hadn’t fought with Mrs. Oude-I’m so glad. She sent love to MaryJean + Drue. Mary took her home + we (m + I) made tentative plans to meet when she picks up Margaret tomorrow evening. Susie leaves in the morning. Before I left I saw all Susie’s new things. Drove to H’wood to George + Judy’s apartment the baby Bryan Edward very cute. Had ice tea + George cut my hair in the kitchen. Decided it would be too late for me to go back to Price so called Peter to pick me up. George, Judy + I played mad game of 3 handed solitaire. Peter arrived + we drove to Timmy’s. Stopped at Shermart for some booze. Listened in car to convention + then at Timmy’s to the TV. Three amendments to the platform were proposed and over the evening all three were defeated. Rockefeller spoke and I thought he was fine, fine, fine. Was impressed too by Romney. and the courage of Sen. Cooper from Kentucky. There are so many leaders of responsibility in the Republican party-how can people be so blind. Very depressing inspite of delicious [crossed out writing] dinner. Gave Timmy check He too was depressed. Left about 11:30-Peter’s call not til one tomorrow so decided to leave my cart on Mansfield + get it in the morning.
