Called Mary at 8 o’clock-returning Margie’s call-Margie had temperature of 103 yesterday but down to 99 today
Up about 7:30-pottered about wrote Diary etc. Went to the studio about 8:45-Had a very nice time really-took copy of my book-ended up giving it to Bob Gips for his little girl Judy-promised however to let Ben read it. Got almost everyone’s names straight finally Bob Gips + Ben Norman-Prop man Ralph Hansen, Camera man Kent Wakeford-his asst. Bill Hines-Dick Evans the production manager-he’s an interesting man-a part-time inventor. Still not sure about Lin somebody + what he does-Jerome (”Romie”) one of the grips. Tried to call Atpam during the morning but couldn’t find it listed. Called Peter + asked him to let Lyle know. Tedious sort of work but hardly demanding. At 12:30 went over to the film laboratory to see the “dailies”-like a hospital-my first time-a little alarming. I looked pretty awful-mouth turned down. More wheat Chekov than Wheat Chex. But fascinating + they were pleased. We went to lunch at Nik O’Dell’s-back to studio. They needed me for “piece of blouse”-Bob Gips said he’d use me someday for voice-overs maybe. Ben Norman is having me in for a Folger’s coffee interview next week. When I finally left it was like saying goodbye to a group of best friends. Came home + called Lyle-Peter had gotten the info for him-initiation fee $1500!! min. salary $164.00-very tight union. He’d belong if he took the Hartford job-they’re offering him $12,000 as a starting fee. He’s undecided. Changed + went out to Estelle’s. Margery’s room finished + just lovely. Estelle jealous. overtired-poor dear + terribly tense. Dick unhappy. Jack had called with message of Monday appt. for me. Oh dear. Peter overtired. Everybody tense. I fixed her curtains. She called man about fence + burst into tears on phone. Said she needed us all next week-impossible I told Margery so. Question of dinner tomorrow night-I said no-we were busy tomorrow + Sunday. Dick Peter + I went out to Sears to get more paint + dinner-we ate Italian food + discussed the problem. Richard upset feeling slighted by Estelle talked about money-I said I’d agree to take none if Dick felt that strongly-decided tonight would be last night. Got big boxes for refuse. Went back + painted “morning room.” Said we didn’t want money-Estelle upset wo we took it. I then told her we didn’t want to come back anymore except to finish up the one or two odd items left. Peter upset. Estelle oddly relieved-[continued in next entry]
