Asked Margery how to spell her name
Up about 8:30-called Margery-wrote diary. Plugged ourselves in-I’d missed 3 days so gave myself an hour. Must say it makes all the muscle aches from Estelle’s house go away. Finished a mystery by Dorohty Miles Disney-have been devouring them at an incredible rate. I really ought to go back to keeping a list in back of diary. Mail brought Bank statement and another card from Lyle Called Jack Donaldson to apologize for last night-nice chat-contracts ready. Called Bob Levine to find out if anything was up on the Swanson commercial. He said he’d let me know. Started a letter to Jimmy-so hard to know what to say or how. Urgente letter from Bill in Grenada. I opened it with trepidation-such a long Bill-backlog of anguished letters and angry but lo and behold-another happy letter-still off the booze 24 days!! Impossibly marvelous. Greatest birthday present imaginable. Drove over to pick up Richard + we went out to Estelle’s. Peter had bought spray paint + worked on my shutters-I was unhappy + nasty about it. Had hoped to avoid a second coat. However finished up that end of the room. Estelle’s furniture arrived with many chips and breakages. Evidently before the movers got hold of them as her husband had warned her. Dick took her home at 4:30-she + Margery returned at 7:30. Quinn called. Film all off-was Surprised at his quick acceptance. He’d tried to reason with the guy at S.A.G. and been unable. Said the man obviously thought he was “a crook.” Unlikely casting Said I’d call SAG on Monday-to argue if nothing else. Made Peter call up Max Arno at G.A.C. He’s going in to see him on Monday Good. We all (Margery, Estelle, P. D. + I) had a drink + then went to an English fish + chips place. Estelle’s treat Delicious. Came back to house. Utterly impossible to work with the dog racing around tearing up the paper, scratching the fresh paint-Estelle spilling furniture polish + stain on the white rug etc. Funny but edged with hysteria. They’re moving in to the house next Thursday-Lock, stock + Barrell. Estelle insisted we bill her. I left it to Peter + Dick who finally decided (Peter did) on $150.00 I figured I’d take $30 and let them each have $60-that means $90 for our savings account + Dick will have paid for his car. Not bad. Peter brought in a birthday cake a little past midnight + we all had a piece. Party broke up about 1 o’clock when M + E + dog left-we stayed on to finish our various projects. Home at 2:30
