Jonathan Herrick (1786-1847)

Description

Jonathan Herrick was born in New London, NH on 4 April 1786 to Jonathan and Betsy Herrick. He operated a tavern out of the Herrick Homestead located on Colby Hill, across from the Colby Homestead on Main Street in New London, NH. In 1811, Herrick married Sarah Colby (born in New London, NH on 24 July 1790). She was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Colby. Together they had three children: Joseph, George, and Nancy. After Sarah’s death in 1823, Jonathan married Rhoda Everett (born 21 August 1798), the daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Messinger) Everett, and together they had two children: Mary and Jonathan. Rhoda died in 1834 and Herrick remarried again, this time to Lucy Pierce. In 1840, Herrick built the cottage [Appletree?] opposite the Burpee Homestead. Lucy Pierce died in 1842 at the age of 50. Herrick passed away on 15 May 1847.
